The first rule of being a self-respecting man is that you don't take advantage of people who can't defend themselves. Mixon belongs in prison. I'm sure the quotes are out there somewhere from the school president, praising his football coach for being such a fine molder of men.

This is why so much of college athletics is largely a farce; it's full of people who don't give a damn about why all these colleges and universities were built in the first place.

It was kind of my point, that there is subjectivity allowed in the judgement.

He'd have to treat himself as a hostile witness.

Yes, and it doesn't count as socializing (cross-thread).

Hope lotta battery going down there. Glad Mixon wasnt there or instead of "it's time for the breakdown" would be "time for the beat down."

He was suspended for a season. What else would satisfy you?

I would have kicked him out of the program. It was August, it wasn't even fall semester, let him go to junior college.

I think what hurt Stoops is that he'd accepted Green-Beckham onto his roster that summer and I'm confident what DGB did in Columbia was on par and perhaps worse than what Mixon had done in Norman. It would have looked hypocritical to bring DGB in but cut Mixon. (As it turned out, DGB never played a down at OU.)

But, in a vacuum, if it's just me? I kick him out, let him go to JUCO, redshirt there, and sign wherever he pleases.

Right now, there is not enough financial penalty that far outweighs the minimal institutional embarrassment.

That's sad. And look at how I worded that - in my opinion, it would take actual financial loss to make a difference. The institutional image in big sports rarely matters - they are all whores.

I still don't understand why it's OK if Joe Mixon transfers and plays but it isn't OK if he stays at Oklahoma and plays. He missed a season. That's a real punishment.

I'm saying if I was Stoops, I'd boot him. He's not getting that opportunity with my team.
