I think we can reasonably debate whether or not the allegations themselves were worthy of being published. But nobody - even the stuanchest Trumpian - can deny the two-page summary being given to Trump and Obama is newsworthy.

To me, it's no different than, say, reporting that police interviewed Gary Condit after Chandra Levy disappeared. That Condit was cleared of any wrongdoing later was irrelevant to his being interviewed/investigated at the time.

It is newsworthy. Here's my question: Why would intelligence officials give it to POTUS and incoming POTUS? They get thousands of pieces of intel. almost none of which they ultimately present to the higher authorities. Why couldn't they discern the details about the alleged sexual escapades were bogus? It took a couple of reporters less than a day to figure out they were nonsense.

It doesn't matter if it's true and that's what makes it so funny.

Piss jokes until he dies. And he can't take it.

The briefings were oral only, as there's no secure storage for documents in Trump Tower. It is likely both men were told Russian agents are claiming Trump is compromised and little else.

That differs from the CNN story ... "The allegations were presented in a two-page synopsis that was appended to a report on Russian interference in the 2016 election."

Not necessarily. It doesn't take long to read two pages. We'll never know what was said to Trump, as his stance now is he doesn't remember.

I saw somebody compare it to Project Blue Book, the Air Force's investigation of UFO sightings.

The fact the Air Force was collecting and analyzing UFO sightings as possible national security threats was newsworthy. Even if Joe Bob actually mistook a weather balloon for a flying saucer.

Who knew that if you ridicule and mock your opponents, they would come at you with teeth bared -- even if they are in your own party?

Poor Trump. It's so hard to predict human nature when you don't care about other humans.

Last night I wondered why the Republicans just don't cut Trump loose. Today I wonder the same thing about Putin. As an asset to Russia, Trump is pretty much blown. Any decisions he makes which enhance Russia's interests will be enormously controversial and widen splits in the Republican Party that are dangerous both for it and Russia. Putin has nothing to fear from Trump voters. He can turn on Trump at his convenience, and he has the means to blow him up.
