Derek Jeter interviewed President Obama this month. It’s been 6 years since The Washington Post did the same.

Here's the problem: The last time The Washington Post had a sitdown like this with Obama was in December 2009. The New York Times's Andrew Ross Sorkin talked to Obama in Jacksonville, Fla., in April. The last Obama sit down with the Times's White House team was July 2013.

The idea that journalism was so much better in the good ol' days is kind of laughable. There might have been an appearance of objectivity--but that didn't mean it was objective (whatever that means) or any less agenda driven.

There's some truth to that, but not completely. What has occurred is, what once was limited to the editorial and op-ed pages has crept into the rest of the A section.

If Watergate happened today, half the country would think it's just a couple of liberals who hate capitalism and democracy.

The problem is, the folks in Trumpland never correct themselves. If anything, they perpetuate the lies long enough that they become policy, then put those that call them out on the lies on their enemies list. If they're not going to dial back the likes of Conway and Spicer, give them their walking papers or they lose even more credibility.

Hmmm ... I don't even think it necessarily was better. I think that there's much greater scrutiny today, though, so the bar is raised on what journalists should be aiming for. I'm under no illusion that journalists generally ever covered the courts or NASA with a requisite base of knowledge.

Mainstream news orgs treat the lefty sites as a feeding ground.

You can move up from the Huffington Post, or BuzzFeed.

Aside from Robert Costa, going from National Review to the WaPo, you don't see many guys going from right wing sites to mainstream media.
