    $25,000 to $30,000

    Description:
The Kerrville Daily Times, a 106-year-old hometown daily newspaper in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, has an immediate need for a hands-on, experienced, creative and energetic Sports Editor. The right candidate will be one who understands how important it is to youths, their parents and the community that we enthusiastically cover the home teams in all local sports – from the collegiate shooting team to the high school football squad and down to the youth soccer league. In addition to establishing a good working relationship with area coaches and reporting on local games, the Sports Editor must also coordinate stringers and freelancers. He or she must be a communicator and also must be a courteous team member who is ready to pitch in as a team player with other projects, when available. Knowledge of sports, ability to write and proficiency at Adobe InDesign and Photoshop are all a must. This is a great position, in a beautiful place with a super newsroom. The full-time position includes benefits, including health insurance, vacation and sick leave. Hours depend upon events to be covered. Send resume, references and work samples to Lisa Walter, managing editor, at: lisa.walter@dailytimes.com.

This was my gig five years ago, spent six months at the shop before moving onto next job. That seems to the shelf life of the job.

25-30K to be an editor? Screw this industry.

I made $32K in my first journalism gig out of grad school, 16 years ago; and it was barely a 30-hour commitment (real time) per week.

The above salary is more disheartening than insulting. College journalism students ... it's not too late to change your major!

Held this position for a year; have since left the business. Can answer questions about this gig.
