I'd have to guess although they wouldn't force him to do so or call for it, any number of Congressional Republicans would be relieved if Sessions resigned. First, he violated the code of Senatorial courtesy by lying to his colleagues. Some of them, even the Republicans, will be madder about that than anything else. Second, the Attorney General testifies before Congress many times in course of any administration. Democrats will demand Sessions be sworn in before he does so. Then those Democrats can ask him anything they want, and the Republicans on whatever committee it is must either take it or rule the questions out of order and be accused of a coverup.

 

Chaffetz will flip flop back to the other side when someone threatens to show him in the hot tub with some 19-year-old chick.

 

There were several other senators who sent Sessions a list of written questions as well as his questioning by Franken. "I forgot" won't wash, not when he forgot repeatedly to different questions on different days, particularly when they were written out. He's going to have to recuse, because Jeff Sessions can't run an investigation into Jeff Sessions.

At the heart of it, the Alabama Problem is a simple one to explain: When the majority party fails to hold its own to the same -- or preferably, higher -- standards it holds the opposite party, corruption and incompetence are inevitable. And when citizens treat their respective parties with the same reverence as college football teams and they excuse away the sins of their politicians like recruiting violations or so many $100 handshakes, they give those officials license to lie, cheat and steal.
