It was never mentioned in any news that she reads.

I could mention three dozen "well-known" people in the news she reads, and you would draw a blank on all of them. Different worlds.

P.S. She hates Rachmaninoff, doesn't even like Tchaikovsky (whom I adore). Only composer we both seem to like is Vivaldi. Familiar to many people on this board who have seen All the President's Men.

Awesome. An IQ challenge between CD Boogie and BTE's Russian bride. This is going to be a great week.

We'll just settle it by meeting at the Cracker Barrel for a best two-out-of-three peg board game showdown.

It's not just reading news. It's seeing news on TV or hearing it on the radio. How could you live in Boston and not know who Aaron hernandez is? It's this kind of willful ignorance -- I don't give a shit about stuff that I don't think directly impacts me -- that is dispiriting and creates a vacuum for trump types. Does she follow politics at all?

Of course. She was cursing Victoria Nuland before I had any idea who this person was. The stuff I read in Stephen Cohen's books about American foreign policy blunders . . . she was telling me about years ago. I thought she was reading propaganda. Turns out I was the one reading propaganda.

The Hernandez case was nothing more than a sports celebrity case. There was nothing inherently newsworthy about the case. It wasn't a serial killing. Wasn't like the D.C. sniper case, where any citizen could be a target. It was zero to anyone not interested in American football.

The sports/celebrity bubble many live in is what I find dispiriting. Those who can recite all the "Dancing with the Stars" competitors but don't know their city's mayor.

I barely know 20 percent of the sj.com RIPs these days. Because I don't reside in that pop culture bubble.

I had no idea who Robert Blake was when he went on trial for murder, and he was IN a movie I've seen a dozen times.
