The Kerrville Daily Times, a 106-year-old hometown daily newspaper in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, has an immediate need for a hands-on, experienced, creative and energetic Sports Editor. The right candidate will be one who understands how important it is to youths, their parents and the community that we enthusiastically cover the home teams in all local sports – from the collegiate shooting team to the high school football squad and down to the youth soccer league. In addition to establishing a good working relationship with area coaches and reporting on local games, the Sports Editor must also coordinate stringers and freelancers. He or she must be a communicator and also must be a courteous team member who is ready to pitch in as a team player with other projects, when available. Knowledge of sports, ability to write and proficiency at Adobe InDesign and Photoshop are all a must. This is a great position, in a beautiful place with a super newsroom. The full-time position includes benefits, including health insurance, vacation and sick leave. Hours depend upon events to be covered. Send resume, references and work samples to Lisa Walter, managing editor, at: lisa.walter@dailytimes.com.

  2. Yep. It's not officially summer until the Kerrville Daily Times posts in need of a sports editor.

It's absolutely gorgeous. The area is great. And you're well within striking distance of places like Austin, San Antonio and Houston.

But yes, this paper has had A LOT of turnover in recent years.

Start with the pay. I know Texas doesn't have an income tax, but $25-30K for an editor... come on, man.

Not to forget Lake Tahoe being just 15 minutes away.
