What does Bill being acquitted in the State have anything to do with whether or not you can impeach a president for obstruction of justice? Bill proved you can be impeached for just that, but the Senate didn't vote to toss him from office. And the guy making the claim that you can't was the one who led the House to go forward with impeachment proceedings. So 20 years ago you could impeach over obstruction but in 2017 you can't? Wonder what's changed over those 20 years ...

If somebody is gonna retire, this is the time of year to do it. I wonder the reason for the rumors. If , for example , he hasn't hired clerks for next term, I suspect the rumors are true.

You can impeach him for bogarting extra scoops of ice cream, driving golf carts on the green, or for farting in the tub with the Pretty Princess.

Clinton should have been tossed from office the moment he wagged his finger st the cameras and lied re Lewinsky. You don't even need the lying under oath stuff in my book.
And the Senate should have also convicted on obstruction. No matter the subject matter. I've said that for 18 years.

They thought Hillary would win, and didn't want to do anything to disrupt that.

    Charlie Pierce:

This, right here. This is where they choked. The American people had damned close to an absolute right to the information their government already had. The most fundamental act of citizenship is the right to cast an informed vote. The idea that the Obama administration withheld the fact that the Russians were ratfcking the election in order to help elect a vulgar talking yam is a terrible condemnation of the whole No Drama Obama philosophy. Would Donald Trump have raised hell if the White House released what it knew? Of course, he would have. But, as it was, the American people went to vote with only about half of the information they needed to assess his candidacy. This was a terrible decision.
