    Not at all.

Langston was one of the best pitchers in the NL after moving over (12-9, 2.39), and the Expos stayed in the race into September. Johnson was literally walking as many people as he struck out at the time of the trade. He continued to be a mess, leading the majors in walks his first three full seasons in Seattle. He was 29 before he became the Randy Johnson you're thinking about.

Brock for Broglio wasn't at the deadline but came in the middle of June.

Yeah, I missed it. Also coincides with the SI story from today, which mentions a scene in the series finale of Seinfeld, where Frank yells at Steinbrenner about giving Hideki Irabu $12 million.

Someone else can correct me, but I think the deadline back then was the middle of June.

Broglio was a very good pitcher for the Card until the trade. He just fizzled out with the Cubs.

The hell with that: I want Bob "Death To Flying Things" Ferguson and Arlie "The Freshest Man On Earth" Latham.

And Brock wasn't that good with the Cubs.

It was. The deadline was June 15 until 1986, and that's when the Brock trade was made.

Other significant June 15 deals were Seaver to the Reds in 1977 and Sutcliffe to the Cubs in 1984.

Was just thinking this in the shower this morning. Was also debating my own internal bias, though, since I was a kid in the 90s in Cleveland.
Still amazed he got so few votes.

It was a numbers game that year, I imagine. That was the notorious year that no one got voted in. So many worthy guys on the ballot, including the PED era guys who keep clogging the ballots for fringe guys by taking up enough spots due to the 10-player limit.

He's pitching well lately. Before he wasn't. Last year, my point was that he wasn't pitching as well as his ERA indicated he was.

    What is the debate here?
