I can't believe what a great career they ended up having ...

A companion thread to the one about people who flopped after a promising beginning.

Radiohead comes to mind. Seemed like another in a long line of one-hit wonders after "Creep." Ended up becoming an iconic act.

Drew Barrymore was a child star, then an addict as a teen and seemed like a cautionary tale, then went onto become America's sweetheart in a series of popular romantic comedies.

And, well, none other than Five-Inning Jake Arrieta himself. One of the worst pitchers in the American League in Baltimore. Cy Young Award winner in Chicago. Stands to make a killing in free agency after becomoing Six-Inning Jake in the second half of this season.

Corey Kluber. He was a dime-a-dozen pitcher and worked his way into being a Cy Young winner.

I'm surprised that your fanboi crush Jim Boeheim who you don't think reporters should ask questions of ended up having the career he did after Knight pantsed him in the closing minutes of the 1987 championship game.

Wrong again. I've never liked Boeheim.

I love Green Day, though. Been a fan from Day One.

Phish was always cute and all but they've become the Dead with no signs of stopping.

Somebody mentioned Wilco on the other thread. They belong here.

I actually caught the tail end of Uncle Tupelo's career (I was in college, saw them play live in Iowa City) and if you would have told me Tweedy and his ragtag, fugitive fleet would release quality albums for 2o-plus years and be more popular than Farrar, I wouldn't have believed it.

BTW, saw a recent pic of Wilco. Tweedy is one of the few adults who consistently looks more disheveled than I do.

I don't even know how to describe Radiohead anymore. They're still far too talented to classify as sucky, but listening to them is now fatiguing. That's the word. They're fatiguing at this point in their career. In Rainbows is the last thing I could get into.

I can hardly believe Robert Downey Jr. survived the '80s and '90s, let alone becoming one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.
