Don't think in those terms. He just lashes out. There's no planning behind it. He's not all there.

 

I agree that there is no planning but would you shocked if he started pardoning people?

 

Absolutely not. It wouldn't surprise me if he had Hillary arrested. He's sure he's above retribution and indeed the law because the Republicans in Congress will do nothing to him ever. Trump's one real burst of political insight was to grasp how cynical, opportunistic and above all cowardly the leaders of the Republican party really were.
PS: Pardons don't stop people from testifying about their knowledge of the crimes of others. Won't get Trump off the hook. He has to fire Mueller for that.

 

He's not laying groundwork for shit. If/when he starts doling out pardons, it'll just be because "the powers of the president are very substantial and will not be questioned."

Although Flynn’s contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were listened to, Flynn himself is not the active target of an investigation, U.S. officials said. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that U.S. counterintelligence agents had investigated the communications between Flynn and Kislyak.
