In a perfect world, the story runs with both the woman and Ansari unnamed. I think it would stand up as a pretty good, "Don't Fucking Act Like This: A Guide."

Oh, let it drift. In the span of about 17 hours, the guy went from leaving the board because it's unhealthy for him to be here, to taking several months away to reflect on how he posts here, to posting again as though nothing ever happened. Medical professionals would call it "a miraculous recovery." Of course I'm going to make a little fun of him.

I've seen that, too. I've talked a lot about this stuff with women I know lately, and I've been shocked by some of their responses, which is illustrative of my male privilege, I guess. One of them talked about sleeping with men just out of sheer exhaustion—she just wanted them to stop pressuring her. Just the idea of "Oh, I give up" sex is pretty crazy to me.

I hope two things come out of everything that's going on right now:

    1) Men stop behaving like dicks.

    2) Women feel more empowered to tell men that they're behaving like dicks.

I think the correction has to come from both sides, in other words.

For instance: In the Ansari case, I think most people would agree he was acting like a cad and should have stopped pursuing sex at multiple points during the evening. I think fewer but still the majority people would also agree that "Grace" was giving at least slightly mixed signals. The apparently consensual oral sex makes this one super murky for me. I have rarely received head from a woman and thought, "Boy, she sure doesn't want to have sex with me." I'm not at all saying that receiving one gives you the right to the other. Maybe that's all she wants to do, and that's her prerogative. She has every right to stop there. But most guys will think in that situation that the girl likes him enough to have sex with him.

I stand to be corrected, happily, on all of this.

That's all well and good, but often in these flare-ups between you two, if just one of you aimed to be the bigger person instead of for the obvious joke, it would go a long way toward making interesting threads like these a little more tolerable and far less lock-able.

Please note, I'm including BOTH of you in that expert assessment.

He runs marathons. Trust me, I'm the bigger person.

    That's a joke. I hear you.

Don't be so sure. I've run two marathons while still be technically overweight (whatever that means).

Yes, that was my opening to brag about running two marathons.

    Two.

    I did two of them.

    52.4 miles.

Ugh, another bragging elliptical-er. I bet you have a sticker on your car, too.

I've done six of them, and I was pretty much a fat fuck for the first four. The first two definitely.

I'm planning on doing No. 7 in April, though I got hit by the flu the last week like a Mack Truck - probably accounting for some of my saltiness here, if I'm being completely honest - and finally returned to the treadmill for two slow-as-hell miles this morning. We'll see how quickly I can get myself back up to speed. I'll push to the summer or fall if I'm not pretty sure I'll break 3:10.

I also have to avoid tearing my ACL or breaking my head skiing.
