I have a terrible confession to make

Sharing a table is a thing now. Communal dining in restaurants. I’m conflicted on it.

I'm not sharing a table with someone when I'm trying to write. I'd rather be lactose intolerant.

I don’t know as I like sharing a meal in a restaurant with strangers.

Yeah, fuck that noise. I'm not sitting with strangers. I'm only going to talk to them on the Internet.

That's fine. I did it pretty recently at Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room in Savannah and really enjoyed it: Southern food served family style at big tables of ten, maybe? Like Thanksgiving, but with strangers. Totally fun and good.

When I'm working? Get the fuck away from me. I just want to see and hear you from a distance so I can pretend I have a life without the actual burdens of having one.

Plenty of places in New Orleans with picnic table style seating. And my favorite bar has big tables where you can squeeze in with strangers if the place is packed on a football Saturday.

Seems to work well at Attica.

We’ve had some bad table mates so perhaps that’s left a mark on me.

Will the coffee shop and/or your barista get a mention in the book's acknowledgements?

The book I'm working on now, I'm a ghost, so no.

Catching up on this thread, but people who sneakily take photos of other people to publicly shame them are shitty people.

I mean, fuck, what an asshole.

Back when I was on the coffee shop circuit, when I lived in cities and not the ‘burbs, this was key. Gotta mix it up.
