Nice move on Cincy's part. A name many Reds and MLB fans are familiar with already.

Would have liked to see them go with someone younger and a fresh face, but I can't fault them for grabbing a known quantity with less than a month until the first spring training games.

This sentiment is severely flawed. Good to know the paper hired someone with experience who they can trust to do a good job. Hiring someone younger is usually a synonym for hiring someone cheap at the expense of good journalism.

Also hard to blame them at all with this hire because Fay is one of the best.

Rats, I was hoping they would take a chance on one of the teeny boppers in this thread who followed up to declare their intentions that they, too, will be applying for this job....

This has been opened again, per Gannett website. So one of two things: A) They are adding a third, or B) Buchanan is leaving.

    Very likely Option B.

There's a few other MLB beat reporter jobs open as well. Interesting timing with spring training underway.

The Athletic added new writers to cover the Yankees, Mets and Phillies. The publications they left all posted listings to replace them.

The Enquirer lost both beat writers this offseason.

Pretty fair bet that he's moving on to the Phoenix incarnation of the Athletic given that he used to cover the D'backs?
