Chick fil A and Shake Shack.

Not just for the food, but for how they’re run and how I feel when I’m in one.

Is Matchbox a chain? I like that place as well as Seasons 52 and Fog de Chao, Brio is good too.

Jersey Mikes is the best chain hero/sub shop in my area.
Chick filA is the best FF
    Mission BBQ

For restaurants to which I have or had ready access:

Fast food, all categories: Taco Bell
Fast food, burgers: Culver's (Wendy's, if I'm limited to the Big 3)
    Fast casual, sandwiches: Firehouse Subs
Fast casual, Tex Mex: Tijuana Flats
    Budget steakhouse: Texas Roadhouse
Chain Mexican: Why? If I have to choose, Ted's Escondido
Big box chains: Old Chicago, 54th Street Grill
BBQ: LOL, I'm in Kansas City

    Chipotle is pretty good, too.
If it doesn't kill you, even better.

Chuy's was fantastic. Ate at one in Louisville while covering our D-II schools in national competition... and the name of my meal was the "Elvis Presley Memorial Combo."

    Hilarious name. Great food.

Had to give that more thought than I would have expected. But I guess I have to just say McD's. There are some times only a Q-Pounder with Cheese will do.

Thirty miles from Victorville puts you at the bottom of the Cajon Pass, the worst part of the drive. I hate that stretch in good weather. Bad weather makes it terrifying. Having vertigo makes it worse. I will be really nervous if it's raining and I won't go if there is a threat of snow.
I don't quite understand why the weather is always lousy in Devore, which also is at the base of Cajon Pass.

I hardly ever eat at chains. My favorite was probably Bonefish Grill but the one near us closed a few months ago.

For fast food I like Culver's, Shake Shake and Smashburger.

And man, I do not get the love for Cracker Barrel. Ate it once. Waited an hour to get in. It was crowded and loud. Service sucked -- the waitress seemed to be bringing out random food items that had little to do with what we ordered. And most importantly, the food was godawful. How do you fuck up breakfast? Breakfast is easy.

The conversation after paying the check:

Mrs. PC: I'm using the bathroom. Want to wait for me in the gift shop?
PC: No, I want to get the fuck out of this building as soon as I can.

Had a headache the rest of the day.

But hey, at least it's better than Applebee's.

As a rule, I go for local restaurants if at all possible, both at home and on the road. That being said ...

    Burger chain: Five Guys
"Fast Casual": Applebee's (edit: just for you, PC!)
Pizza: Domino's (it has improved a lot in recent years)
Mexican: Taco Del Mar and (you knew this was coming) Taco John's
