The student survivors are amazing; they are taking the initiative for change when many would take the time to grieve (and I wouldn't blame them). They are so eloquent. "Hopes and prayers are not enough." Fantastic.

 

I agree, but it kind of seems like you're downplaying this kid's situation. I think if we're going to chastise people for mocking his classmates' opinions, he deserves defending too. Intentional or not, I feel like dismissing that as whataboutism isn't fair to that kid and kind of undermines your overarching argument, of which I totally agree with you.

 

There was no point in bringing up his situation, however.
