In college, I worked at Burger King for two summers. One day, a person ordered a veggie Whopper. We all looked at each other with blank stares on our faces. We asked the manager how to make a veggie Whopper, because none of us had ever made one. Our manager to make a regular Whopper, just no patty of any sort. Run the bun through by itself, put on the toppings, and call it good.
I doubt any self-respecting vegetarian would go into BK, or KFC.

If we aren’t supposed to eat animals, then why are they made out of meat?

Reminds me of a bad joke, usually told around the time a marathon is in town:

What’s the fastest animal on Earth?

    The Kenyan chicken.

Meat is murder, plain and simple.

    Delicious, satisfying murder.

BK used to sell veggie burgers with a meat-substitute patty.

Minor League ballparks come up with some amazing combinations.

The Krispy Kreme donut burger was disgustingly nice.

As someone who is quite the opposite of a vegetarian (I can't stand the taste of leafy vegetables, or most vegetables for that matter), I have never understood why vegetarians have a desire to eat "burgers" or any other kind of meat substitute. Seems to me if I were a vegetarian, I'd just eat vegetables and be content. I wouldn't go out seeking a "veggie burger" or "veggie bacon."

I don't eat a meat salad when I eat. I don't puree my pork chops. It's just weird to me.

As for burgers: Ease of eating. The burger requires no plate, no utensils. I enjoy black bean burgers alot and I eat meat.

I have NO idea why they try to recreate bacon.

Many vegetarians/vegans weren't always that way. They grew up eating meat and went veggie for health, ethical or other reasons. But they still love the taste/texture of burgers (or bacon or chicken or whatever) and want something like it. Often, that's a comfort food for them and this way they can have it (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) minus whatever issue they have with meat.
