The problem with Melania Trump's counterpunches is that President Donald Trump is a 72-year-old man who has spent the better part of five decades anonymously and gregariously leaking malicious and damaging rumors and information about friends, enemies, business associates and his own family members to gossip pages and reporters. It was the state Democratic party chair that started it. Said he was too light in the loafers to fill Strom Thurmond's shoes. Graham was running for Thurmond's seat. When called out on it, the party chair tried to claim that he didn't know what the phrase "light in the loafers" meant.

These days the rumor seems to get perpetuated more by those on the far right than any of his recent electoral opponents.
