    So what should Beto have done, run the same kind of campaign that has gotten Dem candidates crushed for the last twenty years? When is the last time that the Texas Senate race was even slightly competitive?

    He's charged up Dems who otherwise might never have voted. Given that the D's were already charged up due to Trump, this may yet prove to have been a smart strategy. He's campaigned over the whole state, reached out to Latinos and the young. He might lose, sure... but that was the default position going in.
