The role of the Chief Justice in an impeachment trial is mostly ceremonial.

 

Probably right. Also, there is no provision in the Constitution for anyone other than the Chief Justice to preside. Obviously it has been said before, but Trump's signature move of offending someone than playing the victim when that person fires back has been pretty brutal. Bad enough when he did it in spats with Rosie O'Donnell and the like. Gets a bit more serious when he goes from individual person to public instituition/bedrock of American society (the press, the military, the judiciary, the legislature, the NFL). About the only groups he hasn't undermined (at least intentionally) are Wall Street and religion.

 

Draft Dodging Donnie is ragging on a new launch system being installed on carriers ... because, you know, he knows more about ships than admirals and engineers.

”Trump has repeatedly criticized General Atomics’ Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS), installed on the Navy’s newest carrier and slated to be used on other new ships.”

I bet he thinks it’s called EMAILS and just doesn’t like it on name alone.

 

So somebody who points out racism is the real racist?

 

Remember when, about a month ago, a mega MAGA fan sent pipe bombs to a bunch of black and female Democrats?

 

People are citing Hyde-Smith attending a "segregation academy" - sadly she is probably like most white kids with parents of means following Brown v. Board of Education. It's one of the sad legacies of the decision, not only white flight from public schools but the ensuing indifference to public education by most southern states.

Is anyone really surprised this woman can still get elected in Mississippi? She could show up to her next event in robes and a hood and still get 51% of the vote.
