Who will stand up for our country? (military?government?) against this sincerely crazy man. At "best" he is doing this to distract from lifting the sanctions, russia probe, other legal problems and worse case, he has decided on this major step on impulse.
So yeah, I could see this being the next "incident" that is forgotten the next day. One problem though is the frickin media falling for it and not giving enough coverage to the other things.

With the news that Whitaker will remain in charge of the special counsel investigation, it will be interesting to see how this thing plays out. Not sure that him shutting it down should be the biggest concern. Trump understands the political ramifications of that sort of move. Whitaker's biggest impact might be on the back end, his handling of Mueller's report specifically. Trump's best strategy might be to get his hands on the report before it is released to the public. A delay by Whitaker could give Team Trump valuable time to manufacture a defense, point by point. At this point, the toothpaste isn't going back into the tube, but if Trump releases an annotated version of the report simultaneously with the report itself, it could muddy the waters enough that his base never gets a chance to read the objective version, while the undecided voters who are politically ambivalent and don't follow the news closely end up coming away from the whole thing with the impression that it is more of the same partisan he-said, she-said bullshit.
