My first thought. Plus, I understand, the storm is expected to linger for hours.

UCF just declared itself the winner of the First Responders Bowl.

My understanding is this was not a surprise storm or anything. To not have a backup plan is ridiculous. And ESPN has plenty of other channels even if it competes with another game. Play it at least for the fans who spent tons of money to be there, even if there weren't tons of them, and the players who worked for it and missed a holiday for it. If there was ever a shining example of how little bowls mean now, the bowls don't even care if they are played.

Just said the same thing. Further proof that these games are nothing but bullshit TV programming. The 1:30 teevee show threatened to conflict with the 5:15 teevee show. So they canceled the early show.

Tell me again why players should sacrifice their bodies for this crap...

Probably less than an hour. One silver lining: girlfriend (BC '86) discovered Deadspin, and loves it.
Ironically, during the Flutie era, she and her dad went to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl against Notre Dame. Had to be one of the coldest bowl games ever (20 degrees for a night kickoff), but they played the damned thing.

Can't Alabama claim another national championship here?

Larry Scott gets a lot of (deserved) crud for the state of the Pac-12 - but he didn't throw six picks tonight. The conference is in rapid decline. Even the best teams aren't that great. My guess is the West is facing a greater decline in high school football participation than other regions and its infected the entire eco-system. The "best" players aren't that great. The three-stars are marginal at best.

The more I read about the Cheeze-It Bowl, it's apparent the wrong game was called off.

How many tickets had been sold for the game?

I think they should move on the bowls not palyed on New Year's day to Vegas in 2020 when the new stadium opens. The stadium will be domed and as a fan where would rather be right after Christmas. Vegas or some other Sunbelt city like Dallas?
