OK. The reason Trump supporters like Trump is that they are making money. Making money overcomes a lot of bad behavior for a lot of people.

Hey, my 401(k) is killing it. I just cannot stomach Trump.

This has been the case from the word go. It's time we realize that.

If you have kids and/or grandkids and believe any of the climate change science out there I don't see how you vote for these people. If your attitude is, "well, I'll be dead so I don't care what happens," that's fine too...just make sure you own it, and look them in the eye when you tell them that.

If @exmediahack is all about ending abortion, then I get it. Trump is a means to an end. I don't know how he squares that with the mistreatment Trump is doing to actual, living, born children, but whatever. I at least understand it.

If it's about his pocketbook, well, God, Jed, I don't even wanna know him.

And if it is indeed about the pocketbook, he's basically saying only Republicans are good for the economy, despite decades of evidence to the contrary.

I don't disagree that Trump is a scumbag.

In 2016, I didn't vote for Trump but I didn't vote for Hillary, either. Voted for the Republican candidates down-ballot as all of the presidential candidates I supported in the 2016 primaries didn't make it through. Rubio. Kasich. Fiorina. I kept waiting for one of them to take down Trump. They didn't. I wrote on here that I would have held my nose and voted for Cruz that it didn't come to that.

There is not a single "real" contender in the Democratic field that I would back. Sorry. The party is pushing left. I'm social moderate (I've given up the abortion fights and telling people how to live their life because it just isn't the right thing to do) but economically conservative. I don't like the tariff fight with China.

Of course, what I wish some politician would say, in a debate, is "the poor in America have never had it so good". Cell phones are cheap. Minimum wage is up. Netflix is $12 a month. The ACA is in place. Hell, Trump may tweet that one day and see Twitter melt down.

But... my house value is up 25% the last few years. NASDAQ is at 8,000. Dow may or may not finally break through 27,000. I might actually have enough scratch to pass along a decent chunk of money to future generations.

So, yes, I do vote for selfish reasons.

Same as the Tea Party people - whom I generally don't agree with - and the Baby Boomers who spent the 60s, 70s and 80s taking, taking and taking from our society and now scoff at any mention of the retirement age going up a year or two.

I also don't have a worldview of happiness that depends on who is sitting in the big chair at 1600 Pennsylvania. I've worked with people who were convinced that honey would drip from the skies on 1.20.09. Didn't happen. Also that we'd all fall into the ocean on 1.20.17. Didn't happen.

The only real difference, as my life is right now, is that maybe I'll pay $1,200 or so more or less a year in federal taxes depending on who the president is or who is in charge of Congress. Most of us spend more than $1,200 on stupid, unnecessary crap every few months. Whatever.

I guess I'll just never understand that degree of greed and selfishness. Oh well.

But I have to ask: Why are you utterly convinced Republicans are the only answer on the economy? Did Jimmy Carter ruin Democrats for you forever?

Not that I support Trump... he's an a**hole of the highest order. He killed the USFL, after all.

I just have a worldview that is, generally, economically conservative. I don't mind paying my taxes or being charitable. That's part of the deal of our society.

My son and I talked about this yesterday after the first debate. He said he wasn't sure if there was anyone he wanted to vote for in 2020 (his first election -- he couldn't believe I voted for Clinton in 1992). I said "that's fine. If no one fits your worldview, you're not obligated to vote for any of them."

The same reason that I tell my children that a man like Barack Obama was about the best person that our country could ever produce. A man in full who overcame early adversity and built his path to power. I just wasn't in favor of many of his policies. That's all.

Yeah, you do seem to miss the appeal of being comfortable in one's own life.

I enjoy these Boomers sitting on Medicare and Social Security bitching about socialists.
