I grew up what’d be called now lower-middle class. Relatives grew up...a margin less than that.

The poor are more generous, too. Easily so. Where the rich hoard, the poor give.

The rich often have no shame. Exhibit A: Donald Trump.

What’d all those folks in Ohio and West Virginia die of? Addiction, of course. A lack of hope underneath that. A sense of failure and abandonment.

But I appreciate your perspective on it.

a sense of frustration so palatable and misdirected that they blame blacks, women, Hispanics and Jews for succeeding on their own. They blame with such vitriol that violence is the desired outcome. They mask their failures and hatred by wrapping themselves in a false cult of Jesus, guns and alcohol.

I see where you're going with that on both counts and you're right. My issue with Sanders' saying he will raise taxes on everyone comes down to two things: First, he has staked his candidacy on the rich are to blame so let's make them pay and we'll get stuff; second he said the middle class will still pay premiums on insurance AND see taxes go up. The second contradicts the first and irks me. I 100 percent understand healthcare for all will cost something. But it should be a premium OR higher taxes not both. Don't raise taxes, just have the premiums go through the government (yeah a defacto tax but it's the principle).

Appalachia doesn't want to try new solutions.
There's no reason for poverty to be self-perpetuating.
Adapt or die. Fewer Americans work in coal than work at Arby's.

The main reason VP ever was considered a normal path to the presidency is that for a century or so presidents were dying in office every 20 or so years. They don't do that anymore.

Higher taxes are the obvious trade-off for zero health insurance premiums or medical costs.

To pretend that we could pay for such without higher taxes on EVERYONE is folly.

If your $10,000 health insurance premium vanishes and your federal income taxes increase by $5,000 . . . you win.
