Exactly. I would like to point out how a good amount of the SWAC schools shouldn't be D-1 ... the MEAC is ran a lot better than the SWAC I feel. You could almost have a few schools from the SWAC drop down, maybe a couple from the MEAC and then combine the conferences and I think it would be a very competitive conference then.

On that note, South Carolina State had a BIG upset of Wofford in week 1 of the season.

You could make a serious argument that Florida A&M was easily the best college football team in the state, pre-integration. They certainly would have beaten Florida State and Miami, and the Ray Graves-era Gator teams more often than not.

And Grambling might have been the best team in the country had they lined up against Michigan State, Notre Dame, Texas and the Big 8. Michigan State's mid-1960s dominance was directly tied to being able to recruit players like Bubba Smith and Gene Washington while southern schools were still fielding whites-only teams.
