It’s a good change. WOTUS was overreach. Regulated gulleys on the sides of gravel roads and temp streams in the middle of fallow fields. Some Farmers hated it.

I've never seen stocks surge when a company is ordered to quit selling products due to safety concerns. So the ban, right now, is a win for Big Tobacco.

Since when does Wall Street make any sense? They want Trump as president even though he's a moron.

Also, the idea that Big Tobacco would invest billions and then intentionally want the product banned is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

As did the golf industry, specifically superintendents.

They've gotten millions hooked on vaping. If they can't get their fix through vaping, where will they turn?

Gulleys and seasonal streams that emptied into bigger streams and wetlands and rivers and lakes and drinking supplies.

Thing is, not all of the tobacco stocks surged. Although, to the extent they were up, Altria, which has a pretty big investment in Juul, didn't do as well as Philip Morris and British American Tobacco, which did have a big move relative to those other two, but was probably moving on the announcement of a restructuring plan yesterday that included 2300 layoffs, not necessarily the vaping thing.

The tobacco stocks haven't done very well this year (why BAT is restructuring) earnings from combustible product sales (actual cigarettes) haven't been that great, and because these companies are struggling (investor interest is almost entirely due to huge dividends in a world in which bond yields are being surpressed), 2 weeks ago Alria and Philip Morris announced they are in merger talks to try to cut out costs. It tanked Philip Morris's stock, in particular over the last 2 weeks, and it may have been way oversold on a near-term basis.

What you saw yesterday in the stock price probably had way more to do with a short squeeze for which almost any news could have triggered it, than it being entirely related to the FDA news.

Sometimes sentiment for the company's stock when unexpected news comes out can influence an equity price more than it being about the actual news. Things are sometimes just primed for any headline to serve as a catalyst to take things where they were probably about to go anyhow. If things are overbought in the short-term, traders may be looking for a reason (even a flimsy one that may not make sense) to take their profits. If things are oversold in the short-term, traders may try to squeeze the shorts out of their positions.

I'd look several months from now (assuming some other news doesn't change things) before trying to make a correlation that says "this company was a big winner."

We could go round and round on it. Adjacent waters, the original Obama era interpretation, had all kinds of issues.

This EPA cares absolutely nothing about the environment. If helping clean up the planet is in the way of making a dime, it will let the world burn. The whole lot of them are plunderers of our natural resources.

    And no filibuster allowed.
Maybe not how it should work but the Republicans politicized the Court when Moscow Mitch wouldn't allow a vote on Merrick Garland. And it's Trump who talks about "Obama" judges. The Supreme Court is now a partisan instution and the way to get it back from the Republicans is to pack it.
