Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is seeking a beat reporter for all Division I college sports in Arkansas other than the Razorbacks (ASU, UALR, UAPB and UCA). During football season, the reporter concentrates on ASU while picking up breaking news with the other schools, and covering occasional high school football games. During basketball season, the reporter covers UALR men's and women's basketball closely while also keeping up with the other three schools. During the summer, the reporter is responsible for Arkansas Travelers coverage.

This is an intriguing position. I wonder how it works covering Arkansas State football during the season, do you stay in Jonesboro the whole time or do you drive back and forth? Because that's a decent drive to make multiple times a week. But it looks pretty cool, you get to cover a bit of everything.

The beat writer is based in Little Rock. Jonesboro is about a two-hour drive one way, and the reporter makes 2 to 3 trips per week during football season. The driving is minimal during basketball season.

I’d assume these miles are reimbursed and the hours spent on the road counted toward weekly total?
