If they're running, they're probably not doing so in groups of dozens, chanting angrily. Anf they're probably spending about 10 seconds in front of each house and likely doing what the homeowners would have demanded anyway: Get away from here.

 

So if they had walked briskly and kept chanting to a miffed level instead of angry the homeowners would have let them go by with merely an ugly look from a rocking chair?

 

I'm guessing it's pretty easy to differentiate between harmless joggers and people there for the sole purpose of creating some kind of disturbance. What's harder for the homeowners to determine is whether this disturbance was bent on any kind of violence.

 

I'm guessing there's another reason they differentiated them from joggers.

 

Reasonable steps when an angry mob goes walking through your gated community saying mean things

1) Call police. Obviously angry mob is trespassing and somehow got through a gate that is supposed to be locked, but there are two of you and hundreds of them.
2) Lock your doors. Don't antagonize an angry mob who is walking by. You don't know what weapons they have.
3) If you are really concerned about possible violence, get your gun out of its locked box. Check safety is on and bullets are ready. Although you will probably only need to wave the gun around and not need to fire it, so loading it might be optional.
4) Keep an eye on the crowd. If they are walking by and not hurting anything, let the police do their job.
5) If crowd is getting destructive, call police again and report the violence.
6) If crowd comes on to your property and you see there is a direct threat to you or your property, then engage with guns.

I'm guessing Ken and Karen made some threat assumptions based things that had nothing to do with weather the crowd was violent or not and went went from step 1 right to step 6.

Seems like they were at Step 3 (which should probably be Step 5 in that chain). They didn't fire any shots, did they?

 

Watch the video. There was a gate that they opened that had a sign that clearly said "private property, no trespassing."

Under Missouri's Castle Doctrine law, one can use deadly force to defend their property. So if a bunch of murderous hooligans show up on your front lawn, trespassing on your property, you're just going to invite them in for tea?

 

I should clarify that step 3 is have gun by the door or next to you while you stay inside. That way if you need it, you're not fussing with a lock box. And step 6 is engage meaning let them see your gun not necessarily fire it.

 

What if they aren't murderous?
