Do I think the national mood matches the notion that sending a little check to teachers when they die is an insufficient plan? Yes, I do.

Exactly. Now Alma is trying to walk it back by saying he is suggesting hazard pay, but given his previous posts, that clearly wasn't the initial point.

It is a regurgitation of the anti-teacher talking points. When people in state governments in some places or educators insist that more federal funding is necessary to reopen schools safely, people like Alma twist that into an accusation that teachers are asking for more money. They aren't. The money isn't for increases in teacher salaries. It is for all of the expenses involved in making schools safe. This ranges from PPE to air filtration to additional staff to allow for smaller classes.

Normally, I just call bullshit on Alma's contrarian idiocy. This latest vile accusation deserves Spartan Squad's get bent and I'll add that he should kindly find himself a rusty railroad spike, sit on it and rotate.

What are your standards for in person school to return? The 14-day-with-no-cases standard?

It’s just not an argument worth pursuing. I’m withdrawing it.

Here is the most honest answer I can give you: I don't know because right now we aren't even close to being able to have that discussion.

Set the bar here: If we opened schools on schedule, is there a less than 80% chance that my son will be infected, and will have then spread it to the rest of the family? And the answer right now, in my county, is NO.

I want my son to be in class. EVERYBODY wants their kids to be in class. The teachers want to be in class. Right now there is absolutely no way to do that where I live, and we're not close enough to worry about "14 days no cases" standard. We barely meet a "there's still a hospital bed for you" standard.

The 14 days is a standard being promoted by teachers unions.

Madison teachers union demands fully virtual start to school year

‘We do not feel safe:’ Ann Arbor teachers voice concerns for in-person school

Facebook Group: No school until zero new cases of coronavirus for 14 days

Maybe I missed something but I'm just not seeing that outcome for Texas. They're not open to the degree that Florida or Georgia are, to the grudging credit of Gov. Tort Reform (R-Hypocrite), who mandated masks statewide and shut all bars. Texas suddenly also got a little cucky on the opening of schools.

Good point. You’re right. I’m done with the debate on this. We’ll just see where it goes.

Trump's glitch is he thinks people want to be rid of their children in the same way that he does.

I don't even care if his fucking daughter sends hers to school as a condition (like these people would ever bargain in good faith)- skip all of that.

I'll send mine back when I deem it safe and not when 85-IQ Donald Trump does.

    No he doesn't.

He doesn't see farther than three inches past his nose. Donald Trump wants the schools reopened because he feels like if we can just forget this whole corona thing, he might have a chance to get reelected.

The plans don't go any deeper than that.
