That was the reasoning I got from the memorabilia stores I shopped at in Phoenix looking for the die casts. Whether that's true, I didn't verify. Strange that we'd shield children from Viagra but they can get all the liquor and/or beer-sponsored die casts they want.

    two things that stick out:

The Bryant headline doesn't go to the end of the story.

And there's a bit of white space between the folio and the Hackett headline.

    Couple thoughts:

Seems odd that the "OF" was made the focal point of that Walker headline.

Also, I'd rather see a shot of Herschel from his Georgia days, since that's really where his legend was formed.

Back to the page - I picked this one because I thought the Walker "centerpiece" was a nice way to jazz up an inside page.

It's very stylized, but still has a nice flow to it.

I agree with Rukan on the "of", and on top of that I think some of the large type could have been treated a bit better (kerning, etc). I don't think there needed to be a nameline off the right side of the cutout when it's pretty obvious that it's Herschel Walker in the photo. I also think the cutout is a little "messy" on the left side, but that's just an execution thing.

I would have used blue (if it's in their color palette) instead of the orange block because it goes with the whole Cowboys thing Or red if you used a Georgia photo for the cutout.

But I like this. It something that anyone can use on an inside story and is a good example of how to give an inside feature a nice feel.

Agreed, it's nice to see the effort being put into an inside page.

One last thought: Instead of the giant 34, how about surrounding walker with some key numbers (say, 8 to 10) from his career.

not terribly original, i know, but it would give you more than just what his jersey number was....

    Two things strike me.

    1. I would be willing to bet I'm in the minority, but I like the color read-ins.

    2. Why in the world is the first line of the upper-right hed quad-right, or indented, or whatever happened there?

The spacing on those heads looks so "European" to me, and by "European", I mean "looks incredibly awkward to me and the rest of the United States but will probably win 20 SND awards." And that "of" seems a little much.

The main difference between non-U.S. papers and U.S. paper, to me at least, is that they spend so much more time and care on their inside pages. They seem to take it pretty easy on the agate and focus on giving incredibly display to illustate each page. Not that this page is incredible, but the Hershel package and display of photos on the rest of the page certainly make it interesting.
