Cathy Baker, it turned out, lived between Richmond and Charlottesville and would show up at the restaurant where I worked now and then. I had a mad crush on her.

I mentioned in the Kenny Rogers RIP thread how my parents were huge country music fans, so of course we had Hee Haw on a lot at our house. Although, I didn't care for country music at all, I always enjoyed the show. What was really cool was that they would get some great guest stars, especially in the "where, oh, where are you tonight" segments.

The Hee Haw cast was a mixed bag of good people and cousin humping divas. Back in the day, we staffers would have taken bullets for Roy, Buck, and Miz Sayrah (Minnie Pearl.)

    Ain't gonna lie ...
As a southern boy, when I think of the Hee Haw hotties of my youth, and someone says "cousin humping divas" I kinda raise an eyebrow and cock a smile.

I worked in the admin offices at Gaylord during my first (of many) stints in college. We were a pool of people whose responsibilities took us to the Nashville Network, The Acuff, and various and sundry company-related feather-smoothing.

My favorite night? I got serenaded by The Commodores. The night that made me want to walk naked into the Cumberland River? Loretta Lynn wore a spandex unitard that left little to the imagination. The blowback was swift and ruthless.

I was the person at the switch when a park ranger's Tennessee Walker peed on a small child. Twice. I got to marshall operations and safety people when Opryland's monkeys went visiting in Donelson.

You know how for three seasons the "I Am Opryland" carts kept getting doused with coffee minutes before the park opened and closed? You're welcome.

I will not tattle on the mean people, but I'll be happy to tell you who was nice.
