    I didn't say that was a rationale for doing away with it. I was saying that Ben Franklin isn't an argument for why we need it.

    It also doesn't address the thing that doesn't get acknowledged enough, which is that it saddles the country with billions of dollars of debt every year at a time where we have private entities that deliver packages more efficiently, and e-mail and other means of transmitting information make what was a necessity for some in 1775 increasingly into an anachronism in 2020.

    That also has nothing to do with the dishonest and corrupt games that Trump and Louis DeJoy have played with it.

    By making the Western States with low populations and long distances between stops pay their own way and stop having the Northeast States subsidize Montana Wyoming Nebraska Dakotas Idaho Alaska etc

    Now tell that to the Republicans in California when they go into their anti-Newsom rages. Haven't had an R in the governor's mansion since Wilson (if you consider Schwarzenegger as a one-off since he go in via the recall), nor have the really run a decent candidate.
