The folks in Wayne County are very well versed in the sound of a vehicle backing up.

The thing about Wayne County is that it contains some serious multitudes. Not only does it contain all of the city of Detroit, but it has all the Grosse Pointes, but probably more importantly for this exercise, the unique and curious part of the world Michiganders call "Downriver." Without looking at the origins of the Republican canvassers, I'd bet they were more likely from Grosse Ile than Grosse Pointe.

Somebody mentioned "15 minutes of fame" but this bone-headed decision to be the stooges for the state Republican Party is going to hound them and their families for the rest of their lives. Until today, nobody ever heard of Monica Palmer except for the folks on her block and at her church. From here on out, just like the whacko Kentucky court clerk who refused to sign the same-sex marriage license, she'll always be the "racist Republican vote-stealer from Wayne County."

Her face will be on every television. In every newspaper. On every website. She can't hide now.

Whatever the people in Washington or Lansing offered her as a bribe to pull this stunt, it will never be enough. Does she not expect repercussions, not only from a massive media spotlight, but from fellow Wayne County residents. Imagine walking into a supermarket or the local Walmart now that you've made yourself a public figure of the dumbest order?

Even if her kids go to private school, they'll never live down their mother's reputation every where they go.

And she better lawyer up, because I can't imagine this little stunt won't come with a steep price, in both civil and possibly criminal suits. ALCU, NAACP and who knows what else will come at her with both barrels now.

She and the other numbnut took an oath when elected to abide by the Constitution of the United States and the state of Michigan, and a judge is going to be damn interested in how she explains away her civic duty.

Hell isn't just a place to visit. She's going to live it just for toting the company line for Orange Cheeto, who won't give a damn about her. She just wrecked her life, and her family's life, for no reason. Welcome to a life of infamy, Monica Palmer.

She'll make some bank on the wingnut welfare circuit, but in Michigan she's through. Probably move to DC.

The Wayne County Canvassers' names are public. Addresses wouldn't be hard to find.

Bucks owners Wes Edens and Marc Lasry ... both instrumental in landing what was supposed to be DNC in Milwaukee.

And they bought the team from former U.S. senator Herb Kohl (D-Wis.).

Hell, Michigan is in Livingston County, a little ways out of town.

Lurie, the Eagles owner, is a Democrat, although not an outspoken one. And Myra Kraft, Bob's late wife, was a really influential Democrat in Massachusetts. Sox owner John Henry is a Democrat. Just as you can find black Republicans, you can find Democratic owners. They are a tiny minority, but they exist. And there's a significant group who really have no politics but self-interest and donate large sums to both parties as the wind blows.

How well did "I was just following orders" work out for the others who used it as a defense?
