Then again, CNN chryon said "Cybersecurity chief fired for rejecting Trump's baseless fraud claims."

However true "baseless" may wind up being, that adjective has NO place in a breaking news journalistic chryon. These places just cannot resist adding their own take on what should be simple news blurbs.

Which will be for the courts AND election investigations (they ARE still going on) to decide.

SO FAR the claims APPEAR baseless. But in this case it's an unnecessary word. You lose nothing by playing it straight and saying, "Cybersecurity chief fired for rejecting Trump's fraud claims."

Fired. Check.
Reason for firing. Trump's tweets prove it. Check.
That's it.

 

I’m glad the media is finally calling out this guy’s shenanigans. If they’d done it for the past five years, maybe we wouldn’t be in this spot.

 

“Fraud claims” is too neutral, and makes it sound like there’s a possibility that the claims are true.

With a normal person making the claims, you may have a point. Problem though, is that it is Trump, who has verifiably lied more than 20,000 times in the last 4 years and has the credibility of a rock. At some point, there needs to be consequences for constant lying. One of those consequences is not being believed even when there may be a kernel of truth about what is being said.

 

"Too neutral" is EXACTLY what news organizations should be.

A lesson long forgotten.

 

There is no kernel of truth. It's all lies. BTE knows this as well as anyone. He's just trolling. Ignore it.

 

After weighing the credibility of the speaker. If someone always is lying to you, are you going to keep giving their claims neutral weight?

As is often said. If one tells you it’s sunny outside, and the other tells you it’s raining, it’s not your job to quote both of them. It’s your job to look outside and report what you see.

In this case, CNN sees a guy who keeps saying there is a hurricane in the Sahara Desert.

 

“Too neutral” is what got us into this mess in the first place. The baseless-ness of the claims is the news.

 

Donald Trump says Mexicans are bad hombres and a bunch of rapists. Instead of saying baseless, we just said that he made the comment, without any pushback.

That’s why we’re in this mess. That and writing breathlessly about every tweet of his because clickbait.

 

I used to complain about TV news blurring the line between journalism and entertainment
I then realized that line is like the back line of the batter’s box before the lead off hitter digs in and obliterates it
It’s gone and it isn’t coming back
