It's a WHOLLY necessary word. His claims are BASELESS.

If you leave that out, any bullshit or obfuscation or lie anyone throws out there in a political sense has as much credence as something that truthfully is backed up by actual evidence.

Your "SO FAR the claims APPEAR baseless" thing is ridiculous. They APPEAR baseless because they ARE baseless. Using your ridiculous standard, you can never call it baseless, because who knows, some time in the future, he may, just may, present some actual evidence to back up his claim? And as long as the future exists, you can't call it what it actually is?

That's not how it works. ... What makes it baseless is that he is making these sweeping claims ABSENT any evidence. That is the definition of baseless. This is not an opinion or something you can muddle. Either he has actual evidence of fraud or he doesn't. If he insists there was fraud without being able to provide any evidence. ... it's imperative that a news organization specify that he is making BASELESS claims (i.e. -- the claims have no foundation in anything factual).

It's not our job to "push back."

We report stuff. Stuff like "Mitchell controlled secret GOP fund."

We don't write headlines that say "Crooked Mitchell controlled secret GOP fund."

It's the job of politicians, the judiciary and the voters to "push back."

Exactly. You report stuff. And when Donald Trump claims fraud without any evidence of what he is alleging, you report that he is making a baseless claim.

Pushing back is a part of reporting. What you’re advocating for is stenography.

    Gotcha.

Must have forgotten those "Jury lets murderer go free" headlines. All I can remember is "O.J. not guilty"

Fucking headline writers just copied what the jury foreman said. Didn't push back.

By the way, I'm not talking about general "reporting." I'm talking about headlines and the way you PRESENT the reporting. Just because your reporting indicates things Politician X says are untrue does not give you license to say "Lying Politician X . . . " in your headline.

My friend, O.J. was not as bad as “Drumpf.”

“The Juice” captured the Heisman Trophy.

    You cannot argue with this!

Not the same because it wasn’t proven that O.J. committed murder. It had been proven that Trump always lies.

In the case of OJ, you would have needed to be able to PROVE that he murdered her to run a headline like, "Jury lets murderer go free."

In the case of Trump, according to you, you need to DISPROVE his claims to be able to call them baseless.

Why even bother reporting anything? You will always take the opposite side. Prove it! Disprove it! Bias!
