Attorney General William Barr has appointed U.S. attorney John Durham as a special counsel to investigate the origins of the FBI’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The appointment formalizes Durham’s ongoing probe, but more significantly, would give Durham latitude to continue the politically explosive investigation after President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January.

Barr elevated Durham to special-counsel status on Oct. 19 but disclosed the move in a letter Tuesday to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees.

It's just stunning how they are trying to burn it all down before the new administration comes in.

The prime objective is cripple Biden and the dems, make gains in 2022 and retake the presidency in 2024.

It's almost like they don't care what happens to the American people in the meantime.

Durham has been working on this for 18 months and has produced exactly zip, not even misleading suggestive leaks. Also, he was initially appointed illegally under the special counsel law because he was a serving US attorney and the law calls for someone with no government position. In theory, Biden's AG could replace him with somebody who'd investigate the Russian investigation all right, just in the opposite direction.
