Report of healthcare worker in Alaska who had a severe allergic reaction after receiving the Pfizer vaccine. The person is in the hospital, but is in stable condition.

I think I've mentioned it here before, but one of the dumbest things I've done in my life was try to cover a basketball game about three weeks post-op, viz. appendicitis.

It's a relatively quick procedure but still invasive, and it leaves three holes in your tummy, including one dangerously close to the privates.

I am glad your son is well and would advise plenty of rest. The drugs trick you into thinking you can do shit when you can't.

And there will be others, but that happens to every vaccine. I’m sure people had allergic reactions to the polio vaccine, too.

Question is, is this a risk for people who only have allergic reactions to medicines or people who have had any kind of severe allergic reaction, such as myself with Brazil nuts? If the latter, I have some thinking to do.

Hopefully there aren't others. This person had no history of any drug allergies, and is now in the hospital under observation. Anaphylaxis can be life threatening.

Sorry to hear that and hope he's doing well today. My buddy who's a nurse in ICU told me recently that they are not as worried because they know so much better how to handle COVID now.

Thirding, whatevering the good wishes. Lap is the way to go. After about a week, he'll think he's good to go until he realizes his lower abdomen feels like he's been punched repeatedly by an angry parks league mom.

In 2000 I had testicular cancer, left one sawed off. Took a week off from the paper to recup but I hated missing even a day.

A few weeks later I began radiation, got zapped at 7 every morning for 35-40 mornings.

The oncologist said I should take a few days off to get used to the radiation's effects on my body but the prep season was upcoming and I had to write several previews. After the first zap I went straight to a girls soccer practice at 8 o'clock to interview the coach and take photos etc etc. About a half hour into the practice I felt queasy and walked over to an adjacent field and puked. One of the captains saw and I overheard her say "Coach, why is Songbird throwing up?" The coach knew about my surgery and radiation. He'd had testicular cancer too. "Don't worry about it," he told the captain, "he'll be fine." And that was that. I didn't puke again over the final 6 weeks and didn't miss any work.

He and his fiancee are scheduled to drive up here on Tuesday to stay until past New Year's as they both have a bunch of vacation time to burn. We won't even mention that until the weekend at the earliest. It's up to how he feels and how his fiancee feels about the trip. We'd be sad if they can't come, but of course his health comes in first many lengths ahead of that.
