Age alone should not be a determining factor for someone's place in line to get the vaccine.
May parents are 80. They don't have to be out. My wife's folks are older and in an assisted living facility that has been locked down since March and has no cases.
Putting them at the head of the line does nothing to help halt the spread. The only way any of them are going to get it is if someone brings it to them.
When a dam is busted, the first thing you do it plug the leak, not bail water.

Why exactly is Mike Pence getting vaccinated on Friday?

He spent months acting like the virus was no big deal, pointedly not wearing a mask in a hospital, for example.

He should be in group Z-3 for the vaccine.

He turned 36 last month. However, he's big, strong, runs and does yoga so he's in very good shape. I anticipate he'll recover quickly.

I understand the sentiment here, but if we want as many people to be vaccinated as possible, it's important it be seen as a nonpartisan goal. Trump will never do it, so this is second best.

It seems as if what's happening is a combination of two things ...

    A) There's "right-hand" variability in the vials' volume, meaning that all vials have >= the nominal fill specification (which I can't for the life of me find). The vials were filled/shipped with the intent that there'd be leftovers in each.

    B) The on-site dilution operations have their own variability around their nominal specification.

These variabilities cumulate occasionally such that not only is there the planned-for excess, that excess is more than enough for one additional dose.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that this is the norm in such situations, but the uniqueness of the circumstances caused a lot of raised eyebrows.

To show my solidarity to Josh, I too will do no heavy lifting and eat whatever I want for three weeks. And then some.
