Well, if they engage in extreme evasion
And don't admit that it's part of a scheme
But I can't help but have my suspicions
'Cause things are exactly as they seem
And they said they were never intending
For the charade to go on this way
But there ain't any use in pretending
That they'll protest if he decides to stay
How long has this been going on?

They mean that here too, but you actually have to take classes from professors and stuff. And they mean slightly more salary, but continuing ed does not stop there, and they pay for it out of their pockets. Takes several years to pay for itself.

    Apples and oranges.
My wife has an EdD because that was the degree she needed to go into college administration.
I don't hold a medical doctor in reverence. It's the degree they needed to do the job they do.
Do you have a doctorate? If not, how you perceive some else's degree is irrelevant.

Precisely. Nothing they do is in good faith. Just fucking ignore them!

My favorite "Dr." story ... from at the old newspaper job ...

There was a high school girls soccer coach who was also an English professor at the state university in town. He wouldn't pull this on me or our sports editor, but whenever one of the stringers would cover one of his team's games, he would tell them that he's to be referred to as Dr. _____ _____. The stringer would come back to the office and tell us (or write it), and we'd say, uh, no. But within the confines of the newsroom, that coach was always referred to as "the Doctor of Soccer." He'd call in a result, we'd finish the call, hang up and announce, "That was the DOCTOR of SOCCER!"

    Good times.

(But this faux debate about Jill Biden is just dumb. The WSJ and Yahoo should have rejected those columns. We can't go back to tan suits and dijon mustard. Awful.)

I didn't call anyone's degree irrelevant. I was talking about the rigor and difficulity invovled in graduating with these degrees.

FWIW, just getting into a U.S. medical school is incredibly difficult, and graduating from one and then finishing a residency on top of it is much more difficult than getting into an EdD program and finishing a non-research disertation.

That has nothing to do with anyone's career ambitions.

Yeah, I have more respect for the work involved in acheiving the latter than I do the former. That isn't me saying anything negative about the person with the EdD.

Dr J was my first big time interview
The late Terry Furlow had a camp at Hillsdale College and Dr J was the guest instructor
He was great with the kids and put on a terrific show
After he was done he let me walk with him and ask whatever he wanted
    Class act

To get her EdD, my wife had to do research, write, and publish a book.

I don't disagree about getting into medical school.
