I'm gonna need a lot of booze to get through the next four weeks. At least we've made it through the first 204 of his term.

It's like a cherry on top of the Trump shit show.

He's going to go out by either accidently turning his supporters against Republicans in Congress, or forcing them to embrace a little socialism.

Except for the people who will potentially get fucked by a government shutdown, its a great Christmas present, especially with "Trump tries to destroy Fox News" already tucked under the tree.

Will we learn from our experiment with authoritarianism? I'm not holding my breath.

Amendment to my post on the omnibus-covid relief spending bill. It is written so that it will become law on 1/2/21 even if Trump doesn't sign it. So he'd have to veto it.

I love that Pence is trapped.

If he ratifies Biden's election on Jan. 6 he has betrayed Trump.

If he doesn't ratify Biden's election on Jan. 6 he goes down in ignominious history and what little hope of a political future he has is kaput.

They are sitting there trying to scheme for a way out for Pence.

I am picturing the morning of January 6, and him taking the thermometer out of his mouth and holding a match under it when mother turns her back for a second.

There's precedent here. In 1969, VP Humphrey for some reason did not perform this assignment and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate did it. That'd be Grassley.

This is the way it always is. If Congress has not adjourned and the president doesn't sign a bill after 10 days, it becomes law automatically without the president's signature. The president's pocket veto only works so long as Congress is not in session.

"Now I conceive that the President ought not to have the power of pardoning, because he may frequently pardon crimes which were advised by himself. It may happen at some future day, that he will establish a Monarchy, and destroy the Republic. If he has the power of granting pardons before indictment, or conviction, may he not stop inquiry and prevent detection?"

    Touche.

A president shouldn't be able to issue pardons to a former member of his administration or that person's family. Those should come up before a three-person panel of former judges, including a Republican, a Democrat and an independent.
