I too had one of my "best" years personally in recent memory - paid off all my debt, landed a decent job and worked a ton, spent about $2k on my car with tires, brakes, tune-up, headlights etc. bought a new computer, but mostly, I had my taxes done, got a haircut, new plates for my car and other personal business taken care of just before COVID hit. Got a lot of stuff done that I'd been stalling on for a while. Need to make a new "to do" list.

Happy New Year everyone and thank you for everything. I appreciated your words of advice and just thank you for letting me write words when I really needed it. Third time is charm - 2021 motto.

and, me and the GF got shit faced last night which was nice.

Really a fantastic job on the editing - and an amazing number of clips/connections between the music (like Bill Withers Lean on Me which was in the movie on Joe Clark) and actors who shared scenes. Hell of a rotation too with Gibson, Seaver, Don Larsen, Whitey Ford, Niekro. Not too bad with the bats either with Dick Allen, Joe Morgan, Al Kaline, Lou Brock, Bob Watson, Jimmy Wynn, Tony Fernandez, Damaso Garcia and Claudell Washington.

Remembering those we lost in 2020

Happy New Year everyone. In a year where I couldn't see my flesh and blood friends, this community was very important as well as fun to be part of.

This is opposite of what this thread is themed, but I found it a good, happy read, and thought it would find a good home here. I especially liked the news of the vaccine, of course, and the fox-spider (yeah, that visual...), the coral reef, the elephants, the plastic-eating enzyme, and the porn crackdown. Take a look. It'll make you feel at least a little better about the year 2020.

It’s not all bad! 20 things that made the world a better place in 2020

Not a big prayer guy but will say one for you. They were told by the agency it could take that long and I think most of us thought it would never happen.

I probably buried the lede as they say around here as this was easily the best thing that happened in 2020 by a huge margin.

Was thinking about this year, how it started, the attack on the capitol, the hope (I'm biased) that Biden's inaugural would put Trump in the rearview mirror, the hope of vaccines and people going out and being together - and then the despair when we realized people have stopped learning how to co-exist, in public, on airplanes, in schools and then more despair as the Delta Variant came back and now - whereever we're at. In a lot of ways 2021 was more depressing than 2020.

My wife and I were discussing tonight how 2020 and 2021 are basically just one, hellish, unending year.

I think we learned in 2021 that a lot of people, a lot, are ignorant, selfish assholes.

There are some bad times to come in this nation, like potentially end of days bad. But beyond speaking out and voting, there isn’t much more I can individually do to turn back the flood. And individually, ‘21 was a far sight better than ‘20 for me. I’ll not apologize for celebrating having at least some of my life back.
