One of (heck, maybe the only) cool story that I liked about Sarah Palin was the story of how she ended up meeting John McCain and getting on the ticket. She was going to a yearly get-together with some other moms and kids that they had been doing for years.

She got the call to fly to see McCain and called her friends to say she couldn’t make it that year. She said she couldn’t give the reason, so her friends had their visit the next day, turned on the TV, and saw McCain announcing Palin as his running mate.

 

When the networks combined to air a telethon for victims of 9-11 the Friday night after that day, the host was Tom Hanks and Springsteen was a musical guest. Sang "Rise Up."
