I napped until four laps to go and there was no overtime, so that's a good viewing experience.

The first couple times the 500 was run at night, it was novel and kind of neat. Now I just want them to end it while it’s light out.

The race technically ended as soon as the caution light came on. It was more like the Daytona 499.

    1. Take 40 cars from a junkyard.
    2. Paint them with sponsor colors.
    3. Light them all on fire in a big pile on the backstretch.
    4. Spin the Price Is Right wheel with 40 driver names on it.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 2021 Daytona 500.

Do they even want to end in daylight? Green flag at 3:05 makes it virtually impossible once you add in a red flag or three and the more-often-than-not overtime. Plus weather delays, which you can't do anything about but you can sure add in more wiggle room by not starting at 3:05.

Need to invent "rain cars" as a backup for these conditions.

Or a retractable roof over the stadium.

It looked like Keselowski was trying to slow down to cause McDowell to bump into him and lose his momentum, which would’ve handed the win to Logano in the other Penske car. Instead, McDowell made his move before Keselowski could get back to him and now there are a bunch of cars eligible for that race car graveyard Dale Jr. has out at his place.

Sure they do, but Fox picks the start time and is looking for a good lead-in to Bob’s Burgers or whatever they have on Sunday night these days.

Prior to the Days of Thunder fan bubble and expansion, most NASCAR races were held at a time and place where the majority of fans could go to a Sunday afternoon race and get home at a reasonable time to go to work on Monday.
The bulk of your fan base could easily done day trips to all or some combination of Charlotte, Rockingham, Darlington, Wilkesboro, Bristol, Atlanta, Martinsville, and Richmond. Depending on where you live, Nashville and Talladega were also possibilities. If a race started at 1 or 1:30, maybe it was over by 5, you could be home in time to not ever really miss any sleep.
These days, unless you live within a hour or so of a track, forget it.

Right, so no one really wants it to end at 6-6:30 and lead into local news. It's an eight-hour lead-in to a late-night show.
