Too much "Use Your Illusion" slander on this thread. Were they bloated? Of course. There's some pretty awful stuff on those records. They also gave us:

As a single album that's an absolute killer.

None of the big acts saw that coming. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" got on MTV and that was it. Turn out the lights, the party's over for hair. I will still never forgive the grunge era for what it did to proper enunciation, though.
