You and I have different definitions of success in life.

The most successful person I’ve ever met is a janitor.

Heh. Most successful person I've ever met is the founder of Google China. Sat next to him in 11th grade homeroom.

Most successful person I ever met was a man who quit his job as a relatively successful prosecutor and join the Army as an enlisted man at the age of 30 and then went airborne. Did a tour in Iraq and another elsewhere, he earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Came home and started a private law practice. Went into the Army reserves as an officer but not JAG. His unit was activated and he went back to a war zone. His transport hit an IED and though badly wounded dragged 2 soldiers out of the vehicle while it was under fire. Earned a silver star and another Purple Heart. Spent the better part of 8 months at hospitals and rehab to get his leg working again. He eventually died of his injuries and is buried at Arlington. Was a guy you’d drink with, watch a game with and play softball with all I did. Also wouldn’t trust him with your girlfriend, I knew better. But an honest to goodness selfless hero. The kind of guy trump-Christians sneer at as losers and suckers.

    BTE-
I'm not talking about high salaries. 'Winning' comes in many forms.
Success, for example, would be dancing between tectonic plates of change and adapting to new markets and changing scenarios. Some folks call it 'life'.
If your business goes tits-up then you hang your hat somewhere else.
Something many people from this forum have done. It's what smart people with talent do.
    That's 'winning'.
Not going to a Trump rally and bitching about the elites (who have always controlled the GOP, Federalist Society, Cato Institute, on down the line).

I, too, am baffled by Maddow's presence in this thread.

ANd like you know, not for nothing, but Mike Flynn was a Department of Defense employee. So was Lewandowski.

    That don't impress me much.

Many years ago, some people here raked me over the coals when I wondered why some people found Limbaugh to be inspirational or that he inspired others. Somebody told me that was an elitist statement.

What about his life is inspirational? He came from a wealthy family and got his first radio job because of his father's connections. He finagled his way out of serving in Vietnam yet was right at the front of the line of people calling Bill Clinton a draft-dodger.

Yet more than a few 23-year-old Sears assistant managers and women who talked like the secretary in Ferris Bueller's Day Off called his show to tell him he inspired him.

    I just don't get it. I still don't. I probably never will.

He let millions of listeners be the assholes they wanted to be vicariously. They knew they could never be like that themselves without getting fired or getting their ass beat, so they adored him for letting them imagine being that asshole. Surprise! They already were.
