Maybe they should R E A D the submitted content for Student of the Week before printing?

I get it, small town paper employees are overworked and underpaid, but this is a bad look for the Escanaba Daily Press.
But I have a feeling someone just copy/pasted this from an email and didn't think twice to read it.
Yes, apparently a teacher wrote this and was trying to be funny (they were not, in fact, funny) but this falls on the shoulders of the newspaper to not print this without questioning it.



The mom replied:

 

“Just a good, solid piece of American journalism that The New York Times doesn’t have.

 

I suspect that teacher is going to be retiring early. Like, tomorrow morning. (And given the pop culture references, the teacher is probably of retirement age anyway.)
