The pharmacies haven't gotten the note about the other 1Bs being eligible for vaccination. Found an appointment at a Walgreens but their system still has it as only accepting 65+. They're doing the third of three mass senior vaccinations at the local minor league stadium today, so I think we're getting closer.

For a moment I thought you were telling us their golf scores, my friend. I was impressed!

I hope you can breathe a bit easier this week.

For as shitty as this has all been... we found a vaccine and have a quarter of the population vaccinated IN A YEAR.

    People suck. Science remains awesome.

The science-less solution to that situation was no picnic, either.

And i wouldn’t be here, because my grandfather said he wouldn’t have lasted another couple of weeks in the Pacific.

I am getting the Moderna vaccine on Monday. NJ lowered the BMI exception effective Monday from 30 to 25. I’m in pretty good shape but at 6’4” and fairly broad shouldered, I would need to be no more than 205 to get below 25, which I haven’t been since maybe 1993. It’s a pretty arbitrary measure, but if those are the rules, I am going to use them to my advantage.

You grew up in Oak Ridge. Was that just coincidence or were one or both of your parents working in the atomic energy sector?

You'd be here. Japan's surrender was imminent the moment the Red Army entered the chat room.

They were each a little too young for the Manhattan Project (my dad was a 19-year-old during the Japan occupation in 1946).

But he worked his career at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Our childhood conversations went like this:

    "Where does your dad work?"
    --"He works at X-10."
"Mine works at Y-12. Johnny's dad works at K-25."

Every weekday at 5 p.m. they tested the warning siren. To us kids it just meant time to go home to dinner.

Back when “public service” for TV stations wasn’t an oxymoron, WBIR in Knoxville produced short vignettes about East Tennessee life and history called The Heartland Series. And the most memorable episode to me (which I couldn’t find on YouTube) was about the so-called Prophet of Oak Ridge.
