Denmark suspends the use of AstraZeneca shots over worries about blood clots.

A bunch of European countries have suspended use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. The European rollouts were already going pretty sluggish, and this isn't going to help.

From their screw ups in their Phase 3 trials to now, AstraZeneca has really done a poor job with the vaccine.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has mobilized a couple of hundred National Guardsmen to give Covid immunizations. There will be two mobile units capable of delivering 1,000 shots a day moving around in 24 under served rural counties.

Maybe we can get to 1c sometime soon and start to vax bar and restaurant workers.

This is not how Big Pharma should be increasing public confidence in vaccines.

    It is worrisome.

I got a vaccine today (Johnson & Johnson). I booked the appointment by claiming I'm an agricultural worker - since my wife and I are part-owners of a farm with her dad. I felt kind of guilty for line-jumping. But then at the appointment, they didn't ask for any proof that I was actually an agri worker. I could have said I was a teacher or first responder, I guess. That's despite the website specifically saying you needed to bring your ID and proof of employment like a check stub.

Then the pharmacist called me back and recognized me. He'd bought a kayak from me at the outdoors store where I'm now working. He also remembered me from my newspaper and sports talk radio days. He looked at the paperwork, smiled and said "Farmer, huh?" and chuckled. I started to pull out my tax documents showing my farm ownership. He chuckled again and said, "It's fine. Roll up your sleeve. We've got more vaccines than people wanting them right now."

The Mrs. is booked at another pharmacy in 40 minutes. I'll be interested to see if they are checking bonafides or just going on the honor system as well.

Hopefully no one perishes due to your “line jumping.”

    Could you imagine!

Gwen and I have a St. Patrick's Day appointment at the local pharmacy. Maybe they'll add green beer to make it go down easier.

Since it's the anniversary of Hanks/the NBA shutting down etc. I went back and started reading this thread from the jump. Really interesting stuff.

No one really stood up and noticed until the NBA pulled the plug.

Pretty sure the Thunder had a nearly full house that night, and I think the Mavericks did too.

Then Trump made his batshit crazy speech and we all knew we were fucked.

No questions asked for the Mrs. And the next appointment isn’t scheduled until 2. Pharmacist said they’re to the point of giving them to anybody who asks.

In my book, you're cool. The important thing is getting shots into arms, and not letting any go to waste. They can't give a shot to someone who isn't there.

A former colleague and still a friend let me know that a medical director of the county he's now covering had spare vaccines. Medical director asked if he had had the vaccine. When he responded "no," the medical director offered him one. Didn't ask for positive coverage or anything else ... it was merely an issue of supply outstripping demand. Medical director simply possessed enough common sense to offer someone a vaccine that they would have otherwise had to trash.
