Didn't get to see that love up close and personal. Next time I'm in Phoenix.

    Tonight it's Yuma.

If you're driving thru Dateland today and need to take a piss, keep going because the toilet at the gas station is broken. Not from me.

The interstate portion of Yuma is pretty impressive with 20 brand hotels and huge shopping centers and dozens of name shops and eateries. I always thought Yuma was for Cactus League baseball and not much else. Maybe the movie 3:10 to Yuma as well.

I was in Tucson a few years ago, springtime, around 90 degrees. So thought I'd go play a quick 18 in the morning and then head out to one of the box canyons. I hit into the rough, grab a wedge. My partner says no, take your best club. Why, I ask. "Cause you only get one swing at the rattlesnake."

Afterward I'm back in my casita, figure I'll shower and head out. Come to think of it, I thought, I was feeling a little fatigued. "I'll just lay down for a little while, first."

Woke up two hours later, from dry heat and dehydration.

    Probably 20 years ago now:
Sitting at my desk. Phone rings. It's a guy from college.
"Do you want to be the sports editor in Yuma, Ariz.?"
    Look at map.
    "Thanks. I'm flattered. But no."

I've been on many an interstates. One day, I'll take the 8 east out of San Diego and hit Yuma.

Tomorrow I'm taking 98, which basically kisses the border.

I'd take Kumeyaay Highway but can't chance killing the transmission on this climb:

Be sure and pick up some good green stuff before leaving Arizona. They probably have stupid safety regulations preventing it from being sold across the state line.

Steak and egg breakfast burrito from Burrito Factory in El Centro. Best burrito I've had in a very long time.

Looks good, Songbird. And I see you're using the hot salsa ... well done.

BTW, how many miles are we talking for this road trip?

I'm on PCH just north of Dana Point.

    Kim Carnes on the radio.

The ocean waves are crashing to my left.

    Perfect day.

    Many emotions.
