Opinion | The Trump G.O.P.’s Plot Against Liz Cheney — and Our Democracy

But to write about anything else on the verge of Trump’s G.O.P. moving to formally freeze out Cheney would be like writing a column about the weather the day after Watergate exploded or about Ford Theater’s architecture after Lincoln was shot. This is a big moment in American history.

I appreciate Friedman's...passion?...but we're right back where we were, say, 18 months ago. If Liz Cheney's removal from leadership is akin to Abraham Lincoln being shot, there aren't many more political superlatives to hit. In the midst of a million hard things going on for Americans - some of which were created by Trump - columns like this do what? For whom do they do it? Let's say I am a committed, interested party in politics - progressive politics - and a person in the opposing party is removed as leader. What does Friedman want his readers to do, exactly? He's portending civil war - how casually do we want to throw around that phrase?

We learned something in January. If a scant few House races had gone the other way, the Trumpist klan would have had a majority and would have voted to invalidate the results of the election. The only reason so few of them voted for the preposterous position is that they all realized they'd lose. If they secure the majority in the 2024 elections -- and voter-suppressing laws have been passed to ensure their preferred outcome -- nothing else matters. Biden can win every damned state. And they'll all be overturned.

You gnash teeth that "95% of the White House press corps voted for Biden" as if that speaks ill of them. The tragedy is that 5% voted for Trump in that event.
I care not a bit that the White House press corps is libruhl. At least they're not on board with the thorough disdain of democracy.

CNN has spent the last week defending the honor of Cheney and true GOP conservatism. It's been ... weird ... to watch.

    Purges
Use of violence to consolidate power
Moves to ensure a one-party state
    Denigrating past party leaders

Looks like the GOP is the thing they always told people to fear.

No, I didn't. That post was about how a press corps who enthusiastically supported Biden isn't treated very well by Biden's team.

Can you give some examples of how the various reporters who are part of the White House Press Corps. have "enthusiastically supported" Biden?

BTW, if Biden's team restricts their access, it would suggest that regardless of who any of them voted for, they do their jobs so independently that the White House feels the need to limit their ability to get info the White House doesn't want reported to the public.
